This is something I first used in Razor’s Edge and intend to use in future whenever the terrain still offers a guide to the events I describe. In conjunction with a traditional overhead view map, a photodiagram adds a new dimension to the reader experience and conveys a sense of place in a way no other technique can do. The following map and photodiagram were printed opposite each other to illustrate what a daunting obstacle Mount Tumbledown in the Falkland Islands was for the Scots Guards
